[April 23] Learning About Diversity Through Experience and Dialogue: Menstrual Cramps and a VR Visual Experience

Learning About Diversity Through Experience and Dialogue: Menstrual Cramps and a VR Visual Experience.

A collaborative project between Dentsu Research Institute, Professor Sato of Nara Women’s University, and Professor Nagai of the University of Tokyo—one of the three exhibits in “The World in Our Minds.”

I'm involved as a supervising editor, and "The World in Our Minds" is also collaborating on the project (*^^*)

What a wonderful turn of events!

———————————————–

This event is a 60-minute workshop and discussion session designed for students and members of the general public to help them become aware of the “differences in each person’s physical and mental state”—which are often difficult to notice in daily life—and how these differences affect the way people perceive stress.

For example—feeling sluggish for no apparent reason. Having to go out on days when menstrual cramps are severe. Getting easily exhausted in environments with a lot of visual stimuli (such as using a smartphone, the brightness or color of fluorescent lights, or crowded places).

Even in situations where a person is struggling and in agony—and feels completely helpless—it can be difficult for those around them to understand.

This condition is almost invisible from the outside.

Although we usually think we understand other people’s circumstances as “knowledge,” we rarely have the opportunity to truly experience the burden they face.

At this event, through simulated experiences and dialogue, we will create an opportunity to reframe such situations as “our own personal experiences.”

I hope this serves as a small starting point for understanding others.
