- [April 22 Event] “Current Status and Digital Education Initiatives for the Acceptance, Coexistence, and Success of Foreign Talent”
This week’s Learning of Tomorrow Online Symposium will feature Ms. Tomoko Shinohara—a member of the Working Group on the Future of High School Education under the Central Council for Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), a member of the Kunitachi City Board of Education, and former chairperson of the NHK Gakuen School Corporation—and Mr. Keizo Yoshida of Deloitte Tohmatsu LLC.
Against the backdrop of Japan’s shrinking labor force and structural labor shortages, the acceptance of foreign workers has become a policy issue.
While the diversification and expansion of the immigration framework—including the “Specific Skilled Worker” program, the transition from technical intern training to “work after training completion,” and relaxed requirements for highly skilled professionals—are boosting the market, there are significant disparities among regions and companies in the development of infrastructure for daily life and learning (housing, financial services, healthcare, education, Japanese language learning, and government services).
With regard to foreign students, enhancing learning support that transcends language and cultural differences remains a key challenge. To improve the environment for welcoming these students, it is essential not only to further expand the number of Japanese language teaching assistants and support staff but also to develop innovative instructional and support systems—such as through the use of ICT—to ensure that instruction and support are provided efficiently.
At this symposium, we will present on policy challenges related to foreign talent, the current state of the educational environment, and examples of digital initiatives currently underway. We hope you will join us.
