[March 4] “Redesigning Active Learning Spaces – Insights from the Nakajima Memorial Library at the International College of Liberal Arts”

This week’s Learning of Tomorrow Online Symposium is titled “Redesigning Active Learning Spaces: Insights from the Nakajima Memorial Library at the International College of Liberal Arts.” We are pleased to welcome Mr. Tetsuya Toyota, Director of the Nakajima Memorial Library at the International College of Liberal Arts.

As there is a growing demand for active, interactive, and deep learning, spaces such as classrooms, libraries, and learning commons have become more than just facilities; they are now vital educational infrastructure that fosters learning.

There is a growing need to create environments that support the future of learning—including spatial designs that cater to the diverse needs of learners, support systems that leverage digital technology, and mechanisms that foster community building.

At this symposium, Mr. Toyoda, Director of the Nakajima Memorial Library at Akita International University—known as the “library that never sleeps” because it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year—will discuss how learning and physical space are interconnected and how this supports students’ independent learning, as well as the redesign of learning spaces. We hope you will join us.
