- Neurodiversity Potential
Starting this week, we’ll also be sharing information about “The World in Our Minds 2024: Neurodiversity @ Chomorrow.”
Today, we’re introducing the first initiative of the “Neurodiversity Potential” project we launched with Joi and her team!
We will host a panel discussion featuring guests who are at the forefront of neurodiversity research overseas.
We will continue to strengthen our international partnerships!
The characteristics of young people with neurodiversity—such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia—have traditionally been viewed primarily as “challenges to be overcome.” However, thanks to the neurodiversity movement and a growing body of research, these unique traits—which were previously overlooked—are now being recognized as strengths. Many people with autism use creative thinking to solve complex problems, work with meticulous attention to detail, and complete tasks with remarkable concentration. These traits have the potential to be significant strengths in both academic and professional settings. To maximize the potential of people with neurodiversity, it is essential to create environments where they can leverage their strengths (potential). There is a need to establish technologies, learning environments, and workplaces where individuals can demonstrate their strengths without facing discrimination based on their differences. To address this challenge, experts from Japan and the United States are collaborating to explore innovative approaches. During the panel discussion, we will explain the “Neurodiversity Potential Project,” which is the result of this Japan-U.S. collaboration. This project brings together educators, support professionals, and researchers to design and develop innovative technologies and programs that enable young people with neurodiversity to realize their full potential.
Taking this panel discussion as an opportunity, we will continue to promote the Neurodiversity Potential Project.
