[Report] Saturday, February 24: “~The Story of Our Precious Cotton~ Let’s Make a Tapestry Using the Cotton We All Grew”

From a CANVAS Facebook post

*******************************************

On Saturday, February 24, we held the event “~The Story of Our Precious Cotton~ Let’s Make a Tapestry Using the Cotton Everyone Grew.”

Cotton seeds I planted in the spring. The flowers bloomed, the pods formed, and when the pods burst open, cotton emerged.

Fluffy cotton. It’s actually all around us. Cotton is spun into yarn, woven into fabric, and turned into the clothes we all wear (if the label on your clothes says “cotton,” that means it’s made from cotton).

In this session, we'll spin yarn from cotton. First, we'll separate the fluffy cotton from the seeds inside the cotton bolls.

Once the cotton is even fluffier, we spin it into fine thread. This task requires a bit of skill and some strength in your fingertips.

Once the thread is ready, we’ll weave it into the tapestry. The branches serve as the warp, and the thread as the weft. We’ll display it alongside the plants from the Ark on the tapestry made from the Ark’s branches.

We plan to plant these cotton seeds again in the spring and harvest them in the fall.

The next GREENWORKSHOP will be held on Saturday, March 24, titled “Let’s Create a Small Garden: Make a Spring Container Garden and Decorate Your Rooftop Garden.” We hope you’ll join us! 🌻
