Harayama Elementary School, which places a strong emphasis on information education, has set its research focus on “cultivating the qualities and abilities of children to logically utilize information and identify and solve problems.”This school year, the school was designated under the “Special Exemption for Class Hours Program” (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). Aiming to further enhance the quality of instruction, the school is developing an information inquiry curriculum to improve skills in the field of computer science, while reviewing connections with other subjects, grade-level progression, and activities. For example, the school has created guidelines titled “How to Approach Advanced Technologies, with a Focus on Generative AI” for students, parents, and teachers, and is taking a proactive approach to developments surrounding generative AI.

At this symposium, we will present case studies from Harayama Elementary School on fostering information literacy—including the field of computer science, such as generative AI—as well as key points for promoting these initiatives. We hope you will join us.
