- [Announcement] “Neurodiversity Visualized by AI: Toward an Education That Harnesses Diversity”
For the online symposium on Wednesday, October 25, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Shie Nagai, Specially Appointed Professor at the International Research Institute for Neurointelligence, University of Tokyo.
“Neurodiversity” is a term derived from the combination of “neuro” (brain/nerves) and “diversity,” and it refers to the concept of viewing and accepting the differences in each individual’s characteristics as diversity. In particular, there is a growing movement both in Japan and abroad to view the characteristics of developmental disorders—such as autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and learning disabilities—as unique traits and differences, and to create environments where everyone can fully utilize their diverse abilities.
By combining research on artificial intelligence with research conducted by individuals with developmental disabilities, we aim to make visible the characteristics of developmental disabilities—which have traditionally been difficult for both the individuals themselves and those around them to perceive. Professor Nagai, who is tackling this issue as the research leader, will deliver a talk titled “Neurodiversity Made Visible by AI: Toward an Education That Harnesses Diversity.” We hope you will join us.
