Tomohiro Okazaki Solo Exhibition “STUDY”

Congratulations to Tomohiro Okazaki on winning the Yusaku Kamekura Award!

I went to the “STUDY” solo exhibition celebrating the award.

I'm a huge fan of Mr. Okazaki, and

Mr. Okazaki designed the CANVAS CI, the Learning of Tomorrow logo, and the B Lab logo for us.

The NHK program "Design A Neo: That Theme," which won this award, is a work created using stop-motion animation techniques, but

The CANVAS CI concept video was also created based on Mr. Okazaki’s suggestion; we all cut up pieces of colored paper and filmed it frame by frame.

Whenever I commission Mr. Okazaki, he always asks me detailed questions about the concept.

Through that back-and-forth, I’m able to organize my thoughts again or come up with new ideas.

Conversations with Mr. Okazaki are always a joy for me.

The proposals that emerge from that process vividly bring the concept to life through remarkable techniques, so the day I receive a proposal from Mr. Okazaki is always filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement.

Mr. Okazaki's precise and incisive way with words always brings a fresh perspective! That's why I always want to ask him to help whenever I'm starting something new.

    After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
