On Saturday, May 27, we held the event “Let’s Plant Some Seeds! Let’s Grow Plants in Ark’s Garden and at Home”!

In the 2023 school year, we planted cosmos and cotton seeds.

Preparing the soil for planting.

Place stones at the very bottom of the planter.

"Why are we laying stones?" That's the question from Ta-san.

It's to improve drainage!

So you know what "drainage" means, huh?

This time, I'm going to plant seeds for "Yellow Cosmos," which are orange and yellow cosmos.

Looking at the shape of the seed, some people say, “It looks like a stick!”

Cosmos seeds are long and slender, aren't they?

And plenty of water, too.

After that, I planted cotton seeds in the main garden.

Cotton seeds are kind of mysterious.

Let's look at and touch the seeds that are soaking in water.

That's so gross!

A gemstone? What is this?

What is cotton? The clothes everyone wears are made of cotton, too!

We all worked together to plant cotton seeds in the Star-Shaped Community Garden for two hours.

It was a day of planting lots of seeds!

Take home a pot filled with soil and some seeds so you can grow cotton at home.

I hope they sprout.

The next GREENWORKSHOP will be held on Saturday, June 24: “Let’s Set Off on a Creature Expedition! Let’s Find the Creatures Living in Ark’s Garden.” We hope you’ll join us!

*We are pleased to welcome professional naturalist Hiroshi Sasaki as a special guest.
