Using bolts, washers, and nuts,

Create movement; be resourceful.

■Bolts, Washers, and Nuts

Do you know what materials we're using today?

The order in which you use them is important.

"Bolt, craft paper, washer, nut, bolt, craft paper, washer, nut, bolt…"

Carefully, one by one.

What is the purpose of these bolts, washers, and nuts?

Once you tighten the nut, it snaps into place.

Once you've loosely tightened the nut…

Wiggly, squishy, or dangly?

What kind of movement will emerge?

■ “Is it okay if I fold this paper…?”

Just a little something.

But this is a great invention!

When you fold the paper, the bolt, washer, and nut assembly stands up at a 90-degree angle, giving the piece a three-dimensional look!

Another child who saw that

Start bending the paper very gently, and it turns into a sphere!

■Wear it, hang it, or create a name that moves…?

Once one child started trying to see how loooong a chain they could make, the other kids at the same table joined in and started making chains too.

A large hoop forms that one person can’t lift on their own.

Let's all hold it and try moving it together.

The two of them started creating their own names (in kanji).

Since some kanji characters are connected with bolts, when they’re stored, they form a single line or become distorted into interesting shapes.

It's kind of fun to see my name move!

I used everyday materials.

A simple mechanism.

That's where it all began

Everyone works quietly on their own.

I make mine while glancing at the kid next to me who’s “making” theirs.

Before long, it spreads throughout the entire room.

That was the time.

Well, next month’s science program is called “Dome Speakers.”

I wonder what we'll be doing?

I look forward to meeting you.
