Japan Game Awards 2022 U18 Division Finals

Today is the finals of the Japan Game Awards 2022 U18 Division. Once again this year, I served as a judge alongside Level-5 President Hino and Famitsu.com Editor-in-Chief Mitsugawa. I participated online from Shikoku, where emergency alerts were sounding.

The Gold Prize went to “Big Warehouse Company,” which introduced a very interesting set of rules where players teach their movements to other characters and use those movements to reach the goal.

The Silver Prize went to “CHRONO CODER,” a game of incredibly high quality that was reportedly created in about one month. It has a well-established world, including its graphics and sound, and its attention to detail reveals the creative ingenuity that went into ensuring the game is fun to play.

The Bronze Prize went to “Numeru,” which thoroughly explored the slimy texture of mollusks. The work featured numerous ingenious touches designed to convey tactile sensations through sight alone, creating a unique visual world.

Congratulations to all the winners!

However, the overall level is so high that winning a gold, silver, or bronze medal here is an incredibly difficult feat! Just making it to the finals is something to be proud of.

Among them, the works that won awards were those that persevered to the very end and took the worldview the artist sought to express to its absolute limit. The soul lies in the details.

The ability to create, the ability to communicate, and the ability to keep exploring—all of them were wonderful.

Great job today!
