"Seaside Creature Exploration Team" (Preschool Class) in Takeshiba

We held a nature program!

Program Presented by: Hiroshi Sasaki (Professional Naturalist)

Set off on a wildlife expedition with #CaptainSasaki, the nature observation expert!

The setting for this story is the seaside.

I went to Odaiba Park, which is quite close to Takeshiba.

I wonder what kinds of creatures live along the Tokyo coast?

What does it smell like? What kind of wind is blowing?

Let's fully experience the nature that's right in our own backyard.

■ Let's set off with our bingo cards!

Seashells, birds, fish, the smell of the ocean, things that feel smooth, the sound of the waves, butterflies, dragonflies, (something I think is) special

Whenever I come across these, I'll stick a sticker on them.

Will I get a bingo?

■A shoreline teeming with jellyfish…

A transparent object on the shore—it’s actually a jellyfish!

Jellyfish! Whoa! Again! Captain! Jellyfish! Be careful not to step on it!

The voices just won't stop!

It's transparent, and when viewed from above, it has a pattern that looks like a four-leaf clover.

The species I encountered this time was the water jellyfish.

Although water jellyfish aren't poisonous, you must never touch the red jellyfish!

The captain asked, "Is this jellyfish alive? Or dead?"…

Lots of people are saying, “He’s dead!!” (He does look like he might be dead, though…)

Actually, it's still alive~. They say it's waiting at the water's edge for someone to come and take it back to the sea.

I even saw a jellyfish being gently carried away by the waves as it returned to the ocean! Bye-bye~

The one that eats this jellyfish is… a turtle!

Some turtles die after mistaking jellyfish for plastic bags and eating them.

I discovered a mysterious hole at the water's edge.

This is a trace left by some kind of creature.

It has a round shape, with one part that’s somewhat pointed.

I wonder what was there??

Until just a little while ago, what was here was…

Wow, a ray!

I can't believe the stingrays come this close! Apparently, they were eating clams right here.

Everyone found lots of clams while they were exploring, didn't they?

Captain Sasaki's Endless Well of Knowledge About Living Things

It's not just kids—adults are hooked, too.

■ What were everyone’s “special” moments (things that surprised them)?

"Hey!"

"There were so many jellyfish!"

"Great Blue Heron"

"Beach hoppers!"

There were even team members who said, “This kind of thing doesn’t surprise me anymore!”…!

There probably aren't any living things around here.

I'm sure there are living things even in places like that.

If you look reeeeeally closely… there's…

Turn everyone's daily life into a wildlife adventure.

Next month, we're doing physical expression with Mikolabo! Will we travel to space by moving our bodies?!

I look forward to meeting you.
