- [June 1] “Building the Future with Young People: Yamagata-Style Digital Talent Development—Learning AI Through Club Activities”
For this week’s Learning of Tomorrow Online Symposium, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Shinichi Matsumoto, Chair of the Yamagata AI Club Management Consortium—introduced to us by Mr. Toshiaki Endo, Chair of the Bipartisan Parliamentary League on Education and ICT—who will speak on the topic “Creating the Future with Young People: Yamagata-Style Digital Talent Development—Learning AI Through Club Activities.”
With the goal of cultivating digital talent, making Yamagata Prefecture a leader in AI, and contributing to regional economic development—and with the support of businesses and universities—the “Yamagata AI Club” was launched in August 2020. As a cross-school club dedicated to learning about AI, it currently has approximately 150 high school students from 20 schools across Yamagata Prefecture participating. In March 2021, the prefecture hosted the nation’s first “Yamagata AI Koshien,” and the second edition was held this past March. High school students competed to showcase the results of their AI club activities, energizing the event with high-quality presentations.
Chairman Matsumoto will introduce the activities of a consortium that has achieved success by establishing a system in which local communities collaborate to support learning. We hope you will join us.
