"Let's Pass the Tube" (Elementary School Class) in Takeshiba

We conducted a programming class using the "KOOV®" robot programming learning kit.

(Program provided by Sony Global Education Inc. and #Fukasawa Art Institute)

With the "KOOV®" robot programming learning kit,

Once I build a wrapping machine,

Let's try putting all kinds of "tuts" on top!

What kind of “caps” would you like to put on it? What kinds of games might this lead to?

■It All Started with a Game, Then Came the Teardown

A spinning machine that moves slightly differently for each group.

How many Prockies can you fit on it?

When the game is over, carefully and gently take them apart,

What kinds of blocks are there? How were they put together? Let's take a close look.

■Assemble it while looking very carefully

There are some blocks that look very similar, and if you can't assemble them exactly as shown in the tutorial on the tablet, it won't work.

Look very closely and proceed carefully. It's time to focus intently.

When they found themselves thinking, “Huh?,” the kids could be seen helping each other out.

■What kinds of works were created?

"I'm making the cylinder into a cat, right? Since it would be a problem if the cat suddenly started spinning, I thought, 'Maybe it needs a little time to get ready before it starts moving?' so I set up the program this way."

The child who drew the sun and the moon on a tube.

"See how the tube spins around and around? The sun, the moon, the sun, the moon… Day comes, then night comes."

Some of the children who uploaded their original programs to KOOV created spinning machines where the cylinder moves erratically from side to side.

There's also a scene where another kid sees that and says, "Oh! You used a random number, didn't you?"

On the other hand, some children set the program so that it would simply spin continuously in the same direction at the same speed, placed their very own special tube on it, and just stared intently at the tube as it spun.

While some children create stories and games from the simple action of a tube spinning,

Some children were so engrossed in changing the way the cylinder rotated in various programs.

This is the last session of the fiscal year. Thank you so much for the past year—and the past three months (or even longer for some of you)!!!

I’m really looking forward to seeing you again.
