In March 2022, using the "KOOV®" robotics and programming learning kit,

We held a programming workshop. (Program provided by Sony Global Education Inc. and the Fukasawa Art Institute)

Today, we're going to make a "Spiral Recorder."
A spiral? A recorder???
It's a device that lets you draw all kinds of spirals and record them.
What's it made of? How does it work?
Blocks? Programming?

First, I tried playing around with the Swirl Recorder. What kind of swirls did I draw? I can’t draw it right~ It doesn’t look like a swirl~ (It takes a little practice.) The three of us tried drawing together! I tried drawing with two colored pencils! I drew a swirl in this color~!

This time, each student built their own spiral recorder.
With KOOV blocks, you have to look very carefully at the instructions and assemble them exactly as shown—otherwise, it won’t work.
Take a close look at the types of blocks you’re using and where and how to connect them, then give it a try.
We made mistakes over and over and had to start over… Thinking about where we went wrong, going back and moving forward… Everyone focused intently on the blocks. The joy of completing it was truly special!! I did it!!! I want to draw a spiral!

The spiral recorder won’t work unless you program it. If you change the speed or switch between clockwise and counterclockwise rotation—in other words, if you change the program—will the spiral you draw change as well?

This is our final session of the fiscal year.

To wrap things up, we took a moment to look back on the past year together,
and it seems everyone had their own special moments that left a lasting impression…
That makes me so happy!

    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
