- [Announcement] “The Educational Approach at Yakushima Oozora High School: Cultivating the Intuition and Empathy Needed to Shape the Future”
For the online symposium on Wednesday, April 27, we will be welcoming Mr. Kenichiro Mogi, principal of Yakushima Oozora High School and a neuroscientist, and Mr. Ryohei Kikuchi, vice principal of the same school.

Yakushima Oozora High School is a regional correspondence high school established by the KTC Gakuen Educational Foundation in Yakushima Town, Kagoshima Prefecture. It opened in 2005 and celebrated its 18th anniversary this past April. The total number of graduates has exceeded 40,000, and the school currently has approximately 10,000 students enrolled.
Taking advantage of the natural environment of Yakushima, a World Natural Heritage Site, we are launching the “Connecting Disciplines: Self-Discovery Course” this academic year. Through connections with “people,” “nature,” “society,” and “the world,” students will reflect on “who they want to be” and cultivate a vision of “the kind of adult they want to become.”
Drawing on his experience as a neuroscientist who has observed various educational settings, Principal Mogi—who states, “Yakushima Oozora High School provides a unique learning environment that fosters individuality”—will give a talk titled “Yakushima Oozora High School’s Educational Approach: Cultivating the Intuition and Empathy Needed to Envision the Future.” We hope you will join us.
