Starting with high school students entering this spring, a new course titled “Information I” will be introduced, and “Information” will be added as an exam subject for the Common Test for University Admissions, scheduled to be administered in January 2025. With the addition of “Information”—a course designed to foster the ability to appropriately and effectively utilize information technology to identify and solve problems—how will Japan’s education system change?

“Gaining knowledge about the basic mechanisms of computers and networks, as well as experiencing how to actually make things work through simple programming, is essential as a fundamental skill for becoming adults who will thrive in the society of the future. I expect that the inclusion of ‘Information’ as an entrance exam subject will lead to even greater emphasis on this area in high school education,” says Professor Kakei.Professor Kakei, a leading expert in the field of information science and Chair of the Information Entrance Examination Committee at the Information Processing Society of Japan, will deliver a talk titled “Will This Be the Solution for Corporate Digital Transformation? — ‘Information’ Becomes a University Entrance Exam Subject.” We look forward to your participation.
