[Report] Symposium: “Future Cultural Experiences Enabled by Technology”

I served as the moderator for the symposium titled “The Future of Cultural Experiences: Pioneered by Technology.”

The common thread among the new cultural experiences offered by the Tokyo National Museum, DNP Museum Lab, and NTT ArtTechnology is that

This involves using digital technology to offer an viewing experience that surpasses the real thing, while also expanding the audience by creating more opportunities for people to engage with subjects and works that interest them.

We, too, attempted to create a digital educational resource based on “Cloud and Dragon,” considered Soga Shōhaku’s masterpiece, during the Boston Art Exhibition held at the Tokyo National Museum in 2012.We wanted to use technology to compensate for the fact that, compared to Europe and the United States, Japanese museums have fewer educational outreach programs, and we hoped to leverage digital technology to bring the museum’s collections beyond its walls and utilize them as educational resources.

Although I faced a lot of opposition back then, I feel that digital, participatory art appreciation is becoming more widespread due to the pandemic.

I look forward to seeing even more diverse examples (*^^*)
