*Due to the spread of COVID-19, in-person workshops have been canceled, and

In September 2021, we held an online session of “Research Institute in Takeshiba,” featuring guest lecturer yocco, a costume designer.

In this program, we’ll listen very carefully to what yocco has to say…

Sewing based solely on information you've heard!

Even though we're online, please turn off your screen.

I can't see yocco's face or the faces of any of the kids.

There aren't even any samples.

Well… what's going to happen!?

■yocco's SEWING RADIO is now live!

Since many people are new to the experience of “sewing” with a needle and thread, we’ll start by practicing a stitch called the “running stitch.”

Once you've practiced, take out the various fabric pieces you'll be using this time from the kit we sent you in advance and check them.

For some reason, pieces of fabric in all sorts of shapes keep appearing.

What's this? There's a circle! A button! I wonder what I'm going to make with it!

It makes me happy to hear all your different opinions, even online!

Here's an announcement from yocco about what she's sewing and making this time…

Today, we're going to make "creatures" using needles, thread, and fabric.

Well, everyone, I wonder what kind of creatures we'll end up making… I'm really looking forward to it!

Now it's finally time to turn off the screen…

yocco's SEWING RADIO is kicking off~

■What kind of creatures are being born on the other side of the screen???

I wonder what kinds of creatures everyone is making?

It’s precisely because we can’t see it that our imagination runs wild.

"Wow! So cute~~~"—when I hear someone say that,

Wow! How is it cute? What exactly is cute about it~?

I'm really curious! I can't wait to see it.

Working together with your family,

Even though I struggled a bit and almost gave up!?

I did it!

Wait a sec—I'm not done yet!

Yee-haw! I'll be waiting~ It'll be fine~

As we exchanged remarks like that,

Everyone's creatures are now complete.

■Creation that isn’t about following a “correct answer” or someone else’s example

Turn the screen back on—it's time to see everyone's creatures.

The fabric is used in creative ways, and the stitching is meticulous and careful,

Giving them names, or even thinking about what kind of creatures they are…

From the way their bodies face to which body parts go where—there's a whole lineup of creatures, each one unique!

No guide—just listen to yocco's voice

Each of them depicted the creatures they had imagined.

In today's world, which is overflowing with visual information

"Focus on your ears and your hands!"

yocco, who suggested this new challenge

And I’d like to give a round of applause to all the kids who took on this challenge with us!

I look forward to seeing you again in October!
