- Hiwasa Sea Turtle Museum
After our annual rock-collecting outing at Osato Matsubara Beach—which is designated as one of Japan’s “Top 100 White Sand and Green Pine Beaches”—we headed to the Hiwasa Sea Turtle Museum.
The baby turtle tank, the sea turtle ecology exhibit, the Sea Turtle HD Theater, the Sea Turtle Quiz Corner, the Floating Sea Turtle Pavilion, the Giant Turtle Pool… There's nothing but sea turtles here.
Ohama Beach, which stretches out right in front of the museum, has been designated a National Natural Monument for its sea turtles and their nesting grounds; reportedly, this designation was prompted by a research project conducted by middle school students who discovered the tragic remains of a sea turtle on the sandy beach.
Way to go, middle schoolers!
Since I heard there was a “Shell Museum” there, I also stopped by Morasuko Mugi, which, along with Ohama Beach, is designated as one of the 88 Scenic Spots of Shikoku.
In the evening, I’m grilling some Awa-O chicken while enjoying the smoked seafood I picked up in Hiyosaza and some sudachi-flavored sake (*^^*)
