Ichiyongo, Author of Yokai Picture Books

I received this from Ichiyongo, a yokai picture book author (*^^*)

I first met Ichiyongo at the Workshop Collection held in Shibuya in 2015.

A workshop was held where participants filled out worksheets answering the question, “I wish there were a yokai like this,” which resulted in the creation of original yokai and a set of yokai karuta—and it was a huge hit with the children.

She says that her participation in the Workshop Collection at that time served as a catalyst, leading to a sudden expansion of her activities, including workshops, solo exhibitions, and her debut as a picture book author.

Hearing you say that really makes me feel, deep down, that it’s been worth holding this event every year.

"Aru Aru Iru Iru: Yokai Picture Book" is also a picture book adaptation of the "Yokai Karuta" game, which is popular among children.

If you find yourself thinking, “The frustration I feel in all sorts of situations while raising kids must be the yokai’s fault!”—it might just make you chuckle.

Ichiyongosan also participated in our online workshop collection held during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We'll do our best so that people will say our online workshop collection helped expand their activities (*^^*)
