[Report] “Creating Collage Art with a Smartphone Microscope!”

From a CANVAS Facebook post

*******************************************

We held a STEAM workshop for preschoolers and younger in collaboration with Maruzen Junkudo Bookstore!

On June 26, near the beautiful Hitachi Station—which offers a view of the ocean (a building designed with the supervision of Kazuyo Sejima of SANAA)—we held a “Create Collage Art with a Smartphone Microscope!” event in collaboration with Maruzen Hitachi.

Using the μHandy smartphone microscope—developed in Taiwan—I observed and photographed a tiny, invisible world, then created collage art using the “Collage Paint” app!

Even those sparkly origami creations everyone has seen—what would they look like if magnified 60 times…?

"Wow—what on earth is this?!"—it was one surprise after another.

Even when looking at the same thing, the world seen with the naked eye and the world seen through a microscope are completely different.

Through the use of tissue paper and yarn—each transformed by the imagination of the creator—they were turned into something completely different.

Even when you take a closer look at things you take for granted, you might make a new discovery.

If I make a new discovery, I might be able to create something new.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again at Hitachi!
