- General Meeting of the Bipartisan Parliamentary League on ICT in Education
The General Assembly of the Bipartisan Parliamentary League on ICT in Education is currently underway. We advisors are continuing to participate online. I’m joining from the great outdoors.
Following remarks by Chairman Toshiaki Endo and Acting Chairman Masaharu Nakagawa, we held hearings today with representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) regarding the progress of the GIGA School Initiative and related matters.
According to a report from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the GIGA StuDX Promotion Team is providing support to approximately 96 percent of local governments that will begin fully implementing a “one device per student” environment starting in Reiwa 3 by establishing a platform for information exchange with boards of education and schools.
The most common issues raised by local governments regarding the GIGA School Initiative are “use in classroom instruction,” “teachers’ ability to guide students in using ICT,” and “taking devices home,” followed by “device management and operation” and “home internet connectivity.”
It’s important to further promote the use of devices in schools and to ensure that households are equipped to handle situations where students are forced to study from home.
