From a CANVAS Facebook post

*******************************************

In January, we held a painting program (Guest Instructor: Ikuko Matsuo (Ms. Iku-chan))!

Today, we're going to make "A Fruit Guidebook No One Has Ever Seen Before."

We've all seen and eaten fruit.

So, what do you mean by “never seen before”?

This time, while streaming the in-person event online…

Some of our friends even joined us from home~♪

■Something I've never seen before…???

If,

If something you've never seen before appeared right in front of you, what kind of expression would you make?

You might be surprised, or

It might be so beautiful that you'll find yourself staring at it, or

I might get scared and run away, or…

It might be so funny that it makes you laugh!

■ Do you know what a banana is? Well, what about “Wanana”?

The banana that everyone knows is,

It's yellow, and,

It's soft, and,

Sweet things.

But what we're making today is a "Picture Book of Fruits You've Never Seen."

So,

Maybe bananas don't have to be yellow, and

It's okay if it's hard or as big as an elephant.

What is this "Wanana" that Teacher Iku-chan discovered?

A banana that's crunchy like wakame??

What the heck is that~~!

Let's all let our imaginations run wild,

Let's think freely and draw~~~~!!!!

■Painting with Paint

From Ms. Iku-chan, who has a background in Japanese painting,

I'm going to learn how to use watercolors.

Even the child who used to say, “My palette always ends up all gray,”

Today, the palette becomes a beautiful canvas.

The way you use the tools will also change how you express yourself.

The final screening will be,

When the "fruit I'd never seen before" (which everyone had created) appeared right before my eyes,

I even found myself laughing out loud, didn't I?

This time, we tried something new: some children made things together with their parents (everyone looked very focused), while others participated from home.

See you next month!
