- [Report] Elementary School Class: “Sound + Rhythm + Shouts = Song”
From a CANVAS Facebook post

In December 2020, we held the “Sound + Rhythm + Shout = Song” (Elementary School Class) event in Takeshiba!

This month's theme is "Songs."
If you break down a “song,” what elements does it consist of?
There's a lot of equipment besides the mic and speakers, isn't there?
What is this?
What do you think it feels like to hear your own voice through a microphone, through the equipment, and through the speakers?
■Feeling the Rhythm Through Clapping

Start by clapping your hands in time with the music coming from the speakers.
It's getting faster and faster~~~!
■Echo (Rhythm → Melody)

This time, try following along with the sound coming from the speakers by making a sound after the Merlion, and then see what happens when you put a melody to that sound…?
■Rhythm Games

We take turns speaking out loud during the "Through the Ages" game and the "Weird Essay" game. Using a microphone gives us a slightly different kind of thrill than usual.
■Communication Through Improvisation!?

Using the theme “Gifts I Want Right Now,” the children wrote down a list of things they wanted and drew pictures.
As you present it in front of the microphone, Mr. Merlion will ask you questions.
Wait a minute—did that conversation just turn into a “song”?
*
Feel the sounds and rhythms that are part of the elements of “song,”
I would make sounds to go along with it, and sometimes my own voice would serve as the basis for a “song.”
The voice we use every day without even thinking about it.
Even the kids who are usually fascinated by the microphone and play loudly were a little nervous or shy today.

In January, we'll have a "Painting" program.
We are pleased to welcome Ikuko Matsuo as our guest lecturer★
