[Event Report] “A System for Evaluating Learning Histories Using Blockchain: Future Challenges and Integration with Financial Services”

Mr. Tagami, CEO of techtec, was a speaker at the Learning of Tomorrow Online Lunch Symposium on “Blockchain × Education.” The theme was “Moving from a Society Based on Academic Credentials to a Society Based on Learning History Through the Use of Blockchain.”

While there are numerous initiatives—particularly overseas—to manage degrees and certificates on the blockchain, there is still no system in place to manage an individual’s entire learning history. The e-learning service “PoL,” provided by techtec, is taking on this challenge. The learning process is recorded on the blockchain, and the more you learn, the more tokens you earn. While evaluation currently tends to rely on quantifiable metrics, the introduction of process-based evaluation will make it possible to issue tokens and recognize not only academic achievements but also non-academic behaviors—such as working hard at cleaning or participating in local volunteer activities.

The company says it envisions using learning history directly as a "learning score"—rather than simply issuing certificates—to serve as a new metric on par with credit scores. Specifically, by linking the learning score to financial services (DeFi), the system is designed so that the more a person learns, the easier it becomes to access financial services.

Mr. Tagami says that in the future, society will shift from evaluating people based on their degrees to evaluating them based on their learning histories. However, there are many challenges, such as how to promote the digitization of educational data and how to increase the number of situations where evaluations based on learning histories can be effectively utilized. He says he wants to work in collaboration with the education sector to drive further developments.

Let's do lots of things together from now on~ (*^^*)
