KMD Policy: Online Classes

A KMD Policy class.
Today, Mayor Komatsu of Takeo City and former Mayor Hiwatashi joined us via Zoom, and we discussed the reality of local governments’ COVID-19 response efforts, the future of regional cities in the post-COVID era, and the “COVID Support Village” initiative.
As we go about our daily lives acutely aware that responses vary significantly depending on who serves as the head of the local government, Mr. Hiwatashi’s words—“Local responses are crucial in times of crisis”—resonate deeply.
Mayor Komatsu’s remark that “We are where we are today precisely because we’ve been working toward one device per person for the past ten years” also illustrates how the smooth transition to online education during school closures was made possible by the accumulation of efforts made during normal times.
“Coming up with ideas is easy. What matters is how you put them into action.”
This is precisely the theme of the KMD Policy Class and the KMD Real Project.
Today, too, the session was a huge success, with a storm of questions.
It’s precisely because it’s online that we can reach out to guest lecturers. It’s precisely because it’s online that we can ask these questions.
It’s definitely more fulfilling than an in-person event!
