- The book *The First Time I Let Go of the Night*
This book was inspired by tweets on Twitter by Fuyuka Tsubaki, who has Usher syndrome—a condition in which, in addition to congenital deafness, her vision is gradually being lost.

First, she let go of the night.
Then, one by one, she let go of the things that mattered to her:
“the ball,” “being together,” “a sense of adventure,” “daytime,” “books,” “TV,” and “people.”
One by one, the things she loved most were taken away. I can’t even begin to imagine
that sense of despair.
“The things you love won’t necessarily stay with you forever.”
That’s exactly why she cries out: “Don’t put off living in the moment!”
Yet, starting with this single line, the world that had been closed off to her opened up once again. It was her smartphone that paved
the way.
She says that almost all of the production communication took place via LINE.
Ms. Tsubaki’s words, which conclude with “There’s no way I’m going to go blind before I see the conclusion of *ONE PIECE*!!”, are endlessly bright and positive. She fills in the gaps in her
memory with her imagination and weaves her own story, one chapter after another.
Her ability to always find light, no matter how deep the darkness, is truly a gift of her unyielding spirit and rich imagination.
Can you do it? Can't you?
That's not the point.
Will you do it? Or won't you?
Her words really strike a chord with me.
This book was edited by Kazuko Matsuyama, who previously served as editor-in-chief of Kadokawa Tsubasa Bunko and Kadokawa Minutes Book.
