The 2nd Technology Showcase: City & Tech Symposium

The City&Tech (CT) Committee was established to create a city that fully integrates cutting-edge technologies. We will be holding our second symposium on Tuesday, February 18. We hope you’ll join us!
There will be two speakers:
1. “The Mobility Revolution” Through Open Innovation: Mr.
Takeshi Nakagawa, East Japan Railway Company; 2. PARCO Shopping Centers in the Post-Digital Era: Mr. Naotaka Hayashi, PARCO Co., Ltd.

The “Mobility Transformation Consortium,” composed of 160 member companies and aiming to realize mobility transformation, is promoting pilot projects through four thematic working groups focused on Door to Door services, Smart Cities, robotics, and congestion relief.I am involved as a member of the steering committee, and I find all of these initiatives extremely interesting; I am eager to coordinate them with CT’s activities.

We’ll also be hearing from Mr. Hayashi about initiatives at Shibuya PARCO—which is currently making headlines for offering new shopping experiences through various technologies, such as its AI showroom, AR/VR experiences, and smart receipts.I had the opportunity to speak with him about future strategies for commercial facilities before Shibuya PARCO opened, and since that conversation was also very inspiring, I reached out to him again (*^^*)

    After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
