Maejima Hisoka Prize

I served as a judge for the Maejima Hisoka Prize, which was established to honor the achievements of Maejima Mitsuru—known as the “Father of Modern Japanese Postal Services”—who laid the foundation for the postal system.
He is well known for his portrait on the 1-yen stamp.

“While Eiichi Shibusawa will be featured on the 10,000-yen bill, the 1-yen stamp is the perfect fit for Mitsuru Maejima, who believed in the principle of ‘the unsung hero,’” explained a staff member from the secretariat.
Aiming to realize “freedom, equality, and fairness,” Maejima sought to create “a system that everyone can use equally.”
I hope that spirit continues to be passed down (*^^*)
