- Workshop Collection in Miyakojima
Yesterday, I took a day trip to Miyako Island. I held a “Workshop Collection” event at Yui no Hashi Gakuen, a new combined elementary and middle school that opened this school year following the consolidation of four elementary and middle schools on Irabu Island.Since we’d originally envisioned a smaller scale, we called it a “Workshop Caravan,” but renting out the entire school to host the event makes it a “Workshop Collection,” doesn’t it? (*^^*)
Programming: Flying drones. Playing robot sumo. Creating an aquarium with Viscuit. Navigating mazes with Sphero.
Digital Ehon: Experiencing Digital Ehon from various countries. Creating Digital Ehon with PubCoder.
Superhuman Sports: Competing in VR. Becoming an evolved human with the “Skeltonics” motion-amplifying suit. Fighting while extending your body with the Bubble Jumper.
Sports: Play table tennis with Shu Arai, a member of the Athens Olympic team. Play soccer with Sota Hirayama, a former member of the Japanese national soccer team. Race against Katsuya Terada, the Inter-High 400m champion. Play basketball with the Okinawa pro team OKINAWA72.EXE. And much more. The MCs were Garit Chu and 2700 Tsune.
It was packed from the morning on. There seemed to be a lot of comments like, “I didn’t realize it was an all-day event—I should have brought a packed lunch!” So maybe we’ll need food stalls next time?
To everyone on Irabu Island—including the participants—who worked so hard, and to all the organizers of the workshops and other events: thank you for everything. We truly appreciate it!
