- Publication of the 11th Science and Technology Forecast Survey Comprehensive Report
The Nikkei newspaper featured the results of a science and technology forecasting survey conducted by NISTEP, an agency of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
This survey has been conducted approximately every five years since 1971 with the aim of providing foundational information for the formulation of science, technology, and innovation policies. This marks the 11th survey. I participated in this survey as a committee member representing the ICT and Analytics Services sector.
The chairperson was Professor Noboru Koshizuka. The other committee members were Professor Hideyuki Nakajima, Professor Atsuhiro Goto, Professor Hirohisa Hirukawa, Professor Masashi Sugiyama, Professor Junichi Rekimoto, Professor Akihiro Nakao, Professor Soichiro Takagi, Professor Keisuke Tanaka, Professor Hideyuki Tanaka, Professor Tatsunori Hara, and Professor Takeo Hamada.(Five of the 13 committee members are professors from my former institution, the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Information Science and Technology!)
This study sets 2040 as its target year and paints a picture of the future of science, technology, and society through a survey of more than 5,000 researchers at universities and companies.
