The “Bill on the Promotion of the Digitalization of School Education,” which has been submitted to the Diet, appears to be at the top of the agenda for parliamentary bills, and prospects for its passage have reportedly improved.

At yesterday’s parliamentary league meeting, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) also provided an explanation regarding the status of infrastructure development. According to their materials, it would take 25 years to achieve MEXT’s target of “one set of equipment for every three classes.” How many years will it actually take to reach one device per student?
I hope that the enactment of this bill—which requires local governments to formulate and implement promotion plans—will accelerate the improvement of the educational infrastructure.
Mr. Masaharu Nakagawa remarked, “Unless we first distribute one device per student—as in Singapore and South Korea—and then figure out what to do next, won’t progress stall?” So, after the meeting, we also discussed methods for promoting BYOD.
Until now, DiTT has cooperated as the secretariat for the parliamentary league, but we at Learning of Tomorrow also intend to continue doing our utmost to be of service.
As an aside… personally, my interactions with the Legislative Bureau—which I experienced for the first time during the drafting of this bill—were a learning experience in an entirely new world (*^^*)
