- VR and Education: 1st Working Group Meeting
"Providing an immersive learning experience through 3D content that offers a sense of realism."
This is a common theme in discussions about the use of VR in education, but I believe VR has a much broader range of educational applications.
With the aim of sharing these ideas, we held the first open VR × Education Working Group meeting.
Streamlining learning tailored to each individual’s progress.
Experiential learning.
Fun and proactive learning.
Peer-to-peer teaching and learning.
These are often mentioned when discussing the future of learning, but
they can all be achieved through VR as well.
Physical experiences can accelerate learning dramatically.
Learning can be made more efficient by tailoring success and failure experiences to each individual.
By tracking movements with VR sensors, we can monitor and record learning progress.
It enables experiences that would otherwise be impossible due to cost, danger, or other factors—or lowers the barrier to entry for such experiences.
Gaining another person’s perspective through VR can boost self-esteem and motivate students to engage more actively in learning.
Switching perspectives deepens understanding of diversity and fosters discussion.
We can teach and learn from one another across time and space.
What is the best way to utilize VR in education?
What does the future hold for VR?
We had an incredibly intense and in-depth discussion on these and many other topics.
We’ll provide a detailed report at a later date.
In addition to the discussions, we’re also launching a pilot project integrated with Facebook.
We look forward to your continued support!
>To all the speakers:
Afterward, many people told me how rich and inspiring the session was.
Thank you once again for sharing your diverse perspectives.
Yesterday was just the beginning.
We look forward to building momentum together from here on out, and we appreciate your continued support.
This first session was made possible by a miraculous alignment of everyone’s extremely busy schedules.
Thank you very much to all the speakers and participants!
