- [Report] “Toolbox of the Near Future” Exhibition Workshop
To coincide with the “Toolbox of the Near Future” exhibition, planned and produced by CANVAS, we’re holding a special workshop series. Here’s a report on the second installment: “Drawing Robot”!
In this workshop, participants combined motors, batteries, pens, and other art supplies to create their own original drawing robots. They designed everything from the power source and how to attach the art supplies to the robot’s shape, taking on the challenge of making something using everyday materials.
It wasn’t just about building a robot;
participants experimented with questions like “How will it move?” and “Can it draw lines?”
as they moved back and forth between the testing area and the workshop space, each engaging in their own trial and error. While most participants were in first through third grade, I could feel the atmosphere gradually warming up.
At the end, we asked the participants to choose one favorite aspect of “how to attach the eraser”—which is key to the robot’s movement—and then divided them into three groups to draw their designs on large sheets of paper. Everyone seemed surprised to see that even though the motors were attached to the same side, the robots moved differently. They wrote down their observations and discoveries on sticky notes.We also invited the parents to join us in the room to watch the kids’ presentations.
This is a program where participants can enjoy the process of trial and error—experimenting and then rebuilding their creations.
The workshop is scheduled for two days in November and December! Please check our website for details!
Our special exhibition is still ongoing, so please come by and experience it for yourself!
