- [Report] After-School Creative Project
To enrich the after-school experiences of many children, we conduct workshops at after-school programs designed to nurture children’s creativity and imagination.
On October 15, we held a “Clay Art Based on a Theme” session at the Chowa Elementary School After-School Club.
This program is provided by the Fukasawa Art Institute.
This time, the children took on the challenge of visualizing the given themes in their minds and shaping them out of clay.
Each piece was about the size of the first joint of a pinky finger.
Everyone skillfully used their fingers and toothpicks to create their own miniature worlds.
One particularly memorable moment was when we gave the prompt “leaf.”
While picturing leaves—which vary in shape and change color with the seasons—the children used water-based markers to add color to their creations.
They also showed creativity in how they depicted the leaf veins, resulting in a wide variety of shapes.
Other themes included sweet potatoes and Halloween-themed ghosts, among many others.
Toward the end, there was even a segment where the children themselves took on the role of setting the prompts.
After the exhibition, one child pointed out that even for a single prompt, the final shapes and colors differed depending on the artist.
It was a moment where, through clay modeling, we were able to discover the unique individuality of each child.
