On Monday, July 30, we held a programming workshop at Fukuoka Municipal Yoshizuka Elementary School. Participants included teachers from Yoshizuka Elementary School and teachers in charge of IT education at neighboring elementary schools.

After learning the basics—such as creating animations to light up LEDs using the micro:bit and controlling LEDs with button switches and accelerometers—the participants moved on to making message cards using light sensors.
The participants enjoyed the programming experience while carefully checking each step as they went. Afterward, following a presentation of case studies, we exchanged ideas on what kinds of hands-on activities would be best for the children to experience.

The teachers who participated this time plan to conduct programming classes in the future! We will also visit again in August to work with the teachers on developing these lessons.

*This workshop is part of “Programming for ALL,” a project to promote programming education jointly led by the NPO CANVAS and Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd.
