- Making Things with Mirror Boxes @ Wakuwaku Iwabuchi Plaza
[After-School Creative Project]
To enrich the after-school experiences of many children, we are conducting workshops at after-school facilities to nurture their creativity and imagination.
On June 16, we held a “Mirror Box Crafting” workshop at Wakuwaku Iwabuchi Plaza.
This program is provided by the Fukasawa Art Institute.
In this session, participants experienced creating mysterious shapes using paper that reflects objects like a mirror (mirror sheet).
When you place an origami object on the mirror sheet and look inside, a reversed image of the object appears.
Finally, the children made a box lined with mirror sheet on the inside, attached small objects to it, and set it up.
When you look inside the finished box, a mirror world unfolds before your eyes.
Some of the children described the story inside the box, saying, “It’s like a world of its own,” while others explained how they had carefully crafted their creations so that four-leaf clovers would be reflected in the mirror.
There were also children who discovered original shapes, exclaiming, “I’ve made something that doesn’t have a name yet!”
The various shapes created by the mirror’s reflection produce scenery unlike anything they’ve ever seen.
It was a slightly mysterious and heart-pounding adventure.
