Symposium: “The Potential of Programming Education to Foster 21st-Century Skills”

On Tuesday, May 15, a symposium titled “The Potential of Programming Education to Foster 21st-Century Skills” was held at the University of Tokyo. This was the second such symposium, and we came together to explore how programming education can contribute to developing the “21st-century skills” necessary for children as they navigate the future, as well as how these concepts can be put into practice in the classroom. The event featured a keynote speech by Kaoru Takeuchi, a scientist and science writer who founded Yes International School—Japan’s only school offering trilingual education in English, Japanese, and programming languages—as well as presentations on practical examples of programming and ICT education for young children, followed by a panel discussion.
