Designing Learning Environments That Transcend Traditional School Boundaries, from Preschoolers to Working Adults
Symposium Marking the Establishment of the General Incorporated Association Learning of Tomorrow Association

The shortage of IT professionals has been a challenge in Japan for the past 30 years. In recent years, as IT has permeated all aspects of society and the economy, the demand for IT professionals has been rising not only in the IT and content industries but across all industrial sectors. Coupled with a declining labor force, the challenge of securing IT talent has become even more acute.Furthermore, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by AI, IoT, and other technologies, is considered to be “Society 5.0”—the fifth major transformation of civilization, following hunting, agriculture, industry, and information.Consequently, the ability to master IT and create new value is expected to become an essential skill not only for industry but for everyone in all aspects of society, culture, and daily life.

This new era is one of constant change, a society that demands lifelong learning from children to seniors. Furthermore, IT and AI are transforming the type of talent sought by 21st-century society, which in turn is revolutionizing education. We must create learning environments where schools, homes, workplaces, and communities are organically interconnected—both inside and outside of school.

To this end, Learning of Tomorrow is focusing its efforts on developing learning and educational environments that transcend conventional frameworks. To pioneer new frontiers, we are taking action by bringing together the collective wisdom of many private-sector stakeholders interested in this field.

We will advance research, awareness campaigns, and policy proposals regarding technology—including IT—and education, such as measures for IT talent development and strategies for incorporating cutting-edge technologies like AI, big data, and blockchain into education. We will design new learning experiences centered on all learners, from preschoolers to seniors. To mark the organization’s establishment, we will hold an inaugural symposium on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
