- Programming Workshop @ Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture
Today, April 22, we held a programming workshop in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture, together with the team from Microsoft. The venue was the Minakami Telework Center, which has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We used “Hour of Code” (Minecraft Adventure)—a program that teaches the basics of programming in one hour—as our teaching material. The children tackled various challenges, such as building structures with blocks and constructing bridges to cross rivers of lava.Since this workshop was held simultaneously in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture; Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture; and Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture, we used Skype at the end of the session to hold a joint presentation of the children’s projects with participants from these distant regions.A wide variety of projects emerged, ranging from works where players explored the Minecraft world while collecting items like diamonds and wood, to projects where torches were placed like signposts along the path the main character walked.
It was a day that allowed us to rediscover the wonders of everyday technology—whether by expressing our imagination through programming or by sharing our creations with people in distant regions!
*This workshop was held as part of Microsoft Japan Corporation’s “Women’s Telework Experience Program.”
