- “Programming for ALL” Gifu City Programming Education Instructor Training Workshop
Last week, on Saturday, March 24, we held a training session for a programming workshop at the Gifu City Science Museum. Coordinated by the Gifu City Education Policy Division, the event was attended by faculty and students from the Faculty of Education at Gifu University, elementary school teachers, science museum staff, and local instructors.
On the day of the event, we held discussions on how to advance programming education in the local community and had participants try out various teaching materials.
The materials used were Hour of Code (Minecraft Designer) and micro:bit.
Following the Hour of Code challenges, even the adults became completely engrossed in coming up with their own programs.
For the micro:bit, participants experienced everything from basic animation creation to building button switches and designing a rock-paper-scissors game, and the adults also created their own original projects. Ideas for future workshops emerged, such as making flashing tanabata wish cards to celebrate the Tanabata season.
Moving forward, to promote programming education, we will collaborate with the Gifu City Education Policy Division, the Faculty of Education at Gifu University, the Gifu City Science Museum, and local volunteers to train facilitators and host workshops and events. We also plan to develop programming curricula and test teaching materials as part of courses offered by the Faculty of Education.
We will continue to support autonomous and sustainable programming education in the community.
*This training session is held as part of “Programming for ALL,” a project to promote programming education led by the NPO CANVAS and Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd.
