We have created a brochure summarizing the pilot program on programming education for students with disabilities, conducted as part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ “Promotion of Programming Education for Young People” initiative.
In collaboration with teachers from Tokyo Metropolitan Komyo Gakuen and local volunteers—including Kids Programming Supporters (*)—we conducted four lessons that emphasized connections with the wider community.
Through programming and hands-on creation,
through the use of assistive input devices and adapted teaching materials, and
through interaction with adults working in companies,
we engaged in programming activities designed to deepen students’ understanding of their academic subjects. We used teaching materials—including “Hour of Code” for learning programming basics, the educational microcontroller board “micro:bit,” and “Kinect,” which uses body movements as a controller—tailored to the students’ learning needs.
