Recently (March 18), an event for female middle and high school students interested in science and technology was held, and CANVAS conducted the second-part workshop, “Programming Experience with micro:bit,” as part of the event.
We started by using the micro:bit’s various sensors to light up LEDs and play sounds, then moved on to creating a rock-paper-scissors game using random numbers and variables. During the final free-time session, the participants created a wide variety of projects.
One project that particularly stood out was one that used the micro:bit’s temperature sensor to display the current temperature on an LED.By combining the logic “If the temperature is X degrees, display X degrees,” the participant successfully displayed the current temperature.
*Since the temperature sensor is built into the micro:bit, the displayed temperature is higher than the actual temperature.
Other projects included a “like/dislike” fortune-telling game for confessing feelings and a flash calculator, among others…
Throughout the event, I felt the importance of creating something while conversing with others, and of putting thoughts and ideas—such as “I wish it were like this”—into words and tangible form so they can be shared with others.
