Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications: “Promoting the Spread of Programming Education Among Young People” Leaflet Now Available!

[Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications “Promotion of Programming Education for Young People” Project]
We’ve created a brochure summarizing the programming education pilot program for students with disabilities that we’ve been conducting since last September!

In collaboration with teachers from Tokyo Metropolitan Komyo Gakuen and local volunteers—including Kids Programming Supporters (*)—we conducted four lessons that emphasized connections with the wider community.

 Through programming and hands-on creation,
Through the use of input assistance devices and adapted teaching materials, and
Through interactions with adults working in the business world,

we engaged in programming learning designed to deepen students’ understanding of academic subjects. We used teaching materials—including “Hour of Code” for learning programming basics, the educational microcontroller board “micro:bit,” and “Kinect,” which uses body movements as a controller—tailored to the students’ learning needs.
We will be distributing these leaflets at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications project briefing sessions and other instructor training workshops!

We will also report on this pilot project at the results presentation in Hiroshima (March 2). The event will feature speeches on the pilot project results from the five regions participating in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications initiative, as well as a panel discussion with local education professionals from Hiroshima.

If you are interested in programming education achieved through regional collaboration, we would be delighted if you would register and join us.

A project by Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd. and CANVAS to promote programming education for underserved groups, such as children living in remote areas or those with disabilities.
