The Saitama Prefectural Comprehensive Education Center's "Programming Workshop" Has Come to a Close!!

Today, we had about 30 teachers—mostly from elementary schools—participate in the event. With Mr. Abe serving as the instructor, the program featured a packed schedule ranging from classroom lectures to unplugged activities, hands-on exercises combining Windows tablets and sensors, and the use of iPads.

In the second half of the session, which focused on using iPads, students created projects using Pyonkee to build simple mechanisms where images switched like in a slot machine. They were given group assignments, and a variety of projects emerged, including a tool that automatically generates new kanji characters in random combinations and a game where players imagine objects or scenes based on random word combinations.

The workshop concluded with a presentation on the practical implementation of programming classes in elementary schools and a general discussion. Since this session included a lot of group work, it was impressive to see how participants naturally began exchanging information even as they were working on their assignments, with many ideas flying back and forth about how to apply the material in the classroom and perspectives from the students’ point of view.

We plan to continue focusing our efforts on experiential workshops and training sessions for adults. We’ll keep you updated on our activities, so thank you for your continued support!
