From a CANVAS Facebook post
*******************************************
The first symposium of the Next-Generation Early Childhood Education Research Project, established by CANVAS and Candlewick Co., Ltd., was held on Tuesday, November 7, at the University of Tokyo.
Titled “The First Step in Programming Education,” the inaugural symposium brought together educators and parents to discuss learning for children growing up in today’s world and the future direction of programming education.
On the day of the event, in addition to a presentation by Filippo Jacob, CEO of Primo Toys and developer of “Cubetto,” a programming educational toy for young children, we also heard from Yasunori Harada, developer of “Viscuit,” andSatoshi Yamawaki of Castalia Co., Ltd., the Japanese sales partner for “Ozobot,” provided demonstrations and introductions to these tools.
In the panel discussion that followed, CANVAS’s Ishido, Mr. Hiroyoshi Saito, principal of Shizen no Kuni Preschool—which practices early childhood education focused on creativity—andand Mr. Takashi Matsuda, principal of Koganei Municipal Maehara Elementary School, which practices active learning through programming education, took the stage to discuss the potential of programming education in equipping children with the skills they need to thrive in the future.
We plan to continue hosting symposiums that explore various perspectives on learning approaches for young children. We’ll be posting updates on our upcoming activities on Facebook as they become available!
