“The First Step in Programming Education: How to Create Fun Learning Experiences for Preschoolers” Symposium

Yesterday, we held a symposium on programming for preschoolers at the University of Tokyo. Thank you to all the speakers and participants!
Filippo Jacob, the developer of “Cubetto”—a programming toy currently used in 100 countries—said he places great importance on fostering skills related to “programming,” “data collection and analysis,” “cross-cultural communication,” and “artificial intelligence.” Of course, Cubetto focuses specifically on “programming.” I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of toy he’ll create next.
During the panel discussion, we were joined
by a parent representative, teachers Matsuda and Saito—who lead programming education initiatives—and Dr. Harada and Mr. Yamawaki, who lead programming environment development, among others. We discussed numerous questions frequently raised
by parents (and the media), such as: “What skills does programming foster?”"At what age should children start?" They also discussed these and other frequently asked questions from parents (and the media).
I’ll write up a separate report on this (probably).
