DiTT Symposium: “Reflecting on Education in the Age of AI,” held on November 9, 2017

On November 9, we will hold a symposium titled “Considering Education in the Age of AI.”
Following the symposium, we will establish a working group to continue the discussion.
I believe it’s a valuable opportunity to have three national research and development corporations—RIKEN, AIST, and NICT—sit down together at the same table to discuss “education,” so please be sure to join us.

Speaking of AI, Ryo Shimizu’s UEI is launching a “company dedicated to educating talent for the AI era,” and as a result, I’ve joined UEI as a member of the board of auditors. I’m looking forward to learning a lot from Mr. Shimizu.

We will be holding a symposium in November on the themes of AI and education.

It is said that research into AI (artificial intelligence) goes through booms, and we are currently in the third boom (since 2010).
A key characteristic of this boom is how the technology is being naturally integrated into everyday life—such as through voice-activated features on smartphones and IoT-enabled home appliances—
and the data gathered from these applications, along with their impact on daily life, is significant. Consequently, this has become a topic of great interest alongside technological development.

To explore exactly how AI is being used and yielding results in practice, and to discuss the potential impacts of its application in the field of education,
we have invited leading panelists from various sectors to share the latest information on AI
and exchange perspectives from a variety of viewpoints.
We look forward to your participation.
