CANVAS, a Specified Nonprofit Corporation, in collaboration with Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd., will host a
“Roundtable Discussion on Programming Education in Special Education.”
With a grant from Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd., CANVAS, a Specified Nonprofit Corporation, has been promoting the “Programming for ALL” project since 2016.Through this project, we are working to develop a model for providing learning opportunities to a diverse range of students—including those who currently have limited access to programming education—by conducting teacher training sessions, pilot classes, and workshops in schools and communities.
In particular, to provide learning opportunities for children with disabilities, we have been collaborating with various teachers to conduct classes and extracurricular activities.
In July 2017, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications launched a call for proposals for pilot projects targeting students with disabilities as part of its initiatives. With programming education set to become mandatory in elementary schools in 2020, a wider range of initiatives is now underway.
For this event, we are inviting representatives from schools and organizations that utilize programming in special education to share the objectives of their pilot programs in programming education for children with disabilities, as well as the specific practices they have implemented.

After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
